Scaffolding Safety Simulation: Find 5 Hazards in 3D

This is a scaffolding safety simulation you can walk around. It looks like a modern game: a temple tower wrapped in a tube scaffold with no boards and no guardrails, workers climbing it, a heavy bell being rocked along the tubes and a crowd on one bay. Your job is to find the 5 hazards, from the climber with no harness to the barefoot worker on a single tube.
What makes this version different
The tower, the scaffold and the workers are modelled in detail, with plaster, concrete and sand scanned from real surfaces and sunlight and shadows that fall the way they do outdoors. It opens on a light version so it starts quickly on a phone; the ? button in the game loads high detail (20 MB). It runs in your browser and takes 2 free minutes on each game, no sign-up.
What you will practise
Work at height, manual handling, helmets and footwear on a scaffold.
How to play
- On a phone or tablet: your left thumb walks, a drag anywhere else looks around, and a tap identifies.
- On a computer: W, A, S and D walk, dragging the mouse looks around, and a click identifies.
- Keyboard only: the arrow keys walk and turn, Page Up and Page Down look up and down, and Enter identifies whatever is in the centre circle.
Use it with your team
- As a group: put one game on a projector or a TV. One person walks, and the group calls out what they see.
- One each: send the link to everyone’s phone. Each person plays alone, then compare scores and the hazards people missed.
- Talk it through: the end screen lists every missed hazard. Ask the team which of them you have on your own site, and who will fix it.
- On paper: ten of the games come with a PDF and a PowerPoint of the picture with the answers, linked under each game above.
If you run safety for a team, POLLE Safety is free web software for Permit to Work, Toolbox Talks, Safety Committee and Spot the Hazard 3D: free, every module, no card, no caps. Try it.
The 5 hazards
Try the game first. The list below gives the game away.
Show the answers: try the game first
- Working at height on the scaffold without a safety harness or a proper working platform.
- A heavy load is being moved by hand on the scaffold. It can slip, crush a hand or knock a worker off; use lifting equipment.
- Worker without a safety helmet.
- Several workers crowded on one level, standing on bare tubes with no boards and no guardrails.
- Worker is barefoot, standing on a single scaffold tube. Wear safety shoes and stand on a boarded platform.
